An original full-length photogravure, after the painting by Archibald Wortley, showing W.G. Grace in cricket dress and wearing a MCC cap, with his bat slightly raised. In the background is the real tennis court at Lord's.
Published in Newcastle Upon Tyne, 1st May 1891.
Size 40cms x 50cms. Margins extra. Image rubbed. Laid down on board.
SIGNED BY W.G. GRACE AND THE ARTIST in pencil in the lower margin. With remarque of a cricket ball in lower margin. The painting was commissioned through a subscription to MCC members. Wortley (1849-1905) was a portrait and sporting painter who was taught by Millais. His work was admired by John Ruskin, and he went on to exhibit at the Royal Academy. W.G. Grace played for Gloucestershire between 1870 and 1899, and for England between 1880 and 1899. He is perhaps the most famous of all cricketers.

A Royal Grafton china plate bearing a central portrait of Tom Graveney, encircled by bats and stumps, each containing details of one of his hundred first-class centuries. The design is completed by a border of balls and bails and edged in gold.

Diameter 23cms. Preserved in silk-lined presentation box. Good condition.
LIMITED EDITION of 750 plates. Produced to commemorate Graveney scoring 100 first-class centuries. Graveney made 122 first-class centuries in his career. He played for Gloucestershire between 1948 and 1960, for Worcestershire between 1961 and 1970, and for England between 1951 and 1969.
