CURIOSITIES OF CRICKET FROM THE EARLIEST RECORDS TO THE PRESENT TIME [1897] BY AN OLD CRICKETER. WITH A NEW INTRODUCTION BY IRVING ROSENWATER. Published in Ewell by J.W. McKenzie, 1978. 8vo. (48)pp. Original cloth in dust-wrapper. Good condition. LIMITED EDITION of 150 copies. This fascinating work was originally published in 1897 and was limited to only twenty-five copies numbered copies. It is reprinted in facsimile, with a new introduction by Irving Rosenwater. This introduction deals mainly with the disputed authorship of this book (many believed it to have been compiled by Alfred J. Gaston), and clearly proves that the real author was indeed A. L. Ford. .............................................................................. Swanton, World of Cricket, 1966: 'Oddities of the game such as are discovered by long and deep research...provide amazing occurrences not to be found in the normal record books.' A record of unusual cricket curiosities which have taken place in all forms of cricket. Statistics include fast scoring, slow scoring, high scoring, low scoring etc., but a great number of the entries are concerned with curiosities:- polling officers playing a match during an election, and stopping whenever an elector arrived to vote; a fielder crushed between railway trucks when recovering a ball; another fielder falling over a cliff to his death chasing another ball, etc. The 'curiosities' are arranged in tabular form, and mention is made in each case of the source from which the information has been derived.' See Padwick 108. Padwick II, 0128. ----------------------------------------------- The Cricketer International, February 1979: This is clearly the work of a most meticulous and methodical compiler; how appropriate that Rosenwater should now be associated with it... ..............................................................
