Published in Ewell by J.W. McKenzie, 2020.
8vo. xvi+175pp. Illustrated. Original pictorial stiffened wrappers. Good condition.
SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR on the half-title. A biography of R.P. Keigwin, who played cricket for Cambridge University, Essex and Gloucestershire between 1903 and 1923, much during the Golden Age of cricket. With transcripts of his correspondence in the 1960s and early 1970s in which he recalls cricketers and events in his cricket career. Keigwin was a superb all-round sportsman and played for Cambridge University at cricket, hockey, football and rackets. He went on to represent England at hockey. His rackets partner was A.E.J. Collins, who in 1899 famously scored 628 not out in a school match. .................................................................... Association of Cricket Statisticians, January 2021: At the heart of the book is a series of chapters examining the greats of the Golden Age, with Keigwin's comments on some of those he played against during his career...there are comparisons of the bowling styles of Charles Blythe and Wilfred Rhodes, reflections on the fast bowlers of the period (the fastest being Kotze, Tom Richardson and Charles Kortright being past their best by the time Keigwin faced them)... Keigwin made his mark in a number of other fields. He was an excellent all-round sportsman, playing hockey for England and winning blues for Cambridge at football, hockey and rackets...as well as cricket, while in later life he played tennis at county level...This is a lovely book about a facinating man whose achievements in cricket and his love of the game were just part of a very full life. ...............................................
