Depicting original pen and ink caricature drawings by Sam Wells of events during and after the match between Victoria and South Australia, played at Melbourne 30th December 1961-2nd January 1962.
The caricatures depict scenes of cricketers who played in the match, including D.J. Sincock, G.S. Sobers, R.H. Sellers, D. Sharpe, G. Brooks, B.N. Jarman and L.E. Favell of South Australia, and W.M. Lawry, D.J. Anderson and I.R. Redpath of Victoria. Also depicted are J. Ryder, S. Loxton and other Victorian Selectors hiding in a bin.
Sam Wells (1885-1972) was a popular sporting and political cartoonist who worked predominantly for the Melbourne 'Age' between the 1930s and 1960s.
He drew the major sporting cartoons of the time, and his work appeared every Monday in the sports column for over 25 years.
