JOSEPH GUY. BORN IN NOTTINGHAM IN 1814. An original large hand-coloured lithograph by John Corbet Anderson, from a drawing by the same artist, depicting the cricketer Joseph Guy.
Published in London by the Artist, 2nd April, 1853.
Size 21cms x 30ms. Margins extra. Preserved in cut mount. Slightly rubbed, margins soiled.
Guy played for Nottinghamshire between 1837 and 1854.
In the mid nineteenth century Anderson produced a series of well-observed lithograph portraits of contemporary cricketers. These have always enjoyed a wide popularity and have become collectors' items.
