(GRIMMETT, C.V.).

A very interesting three page signed autograph letter in pencil from the Secretary of the Natal Cricket Association Doug Geddie, signed 'Doug', to C.V. Grimmett. On official Natal Cricket Association headed notepaper. Dated 8th January 1936.

...my hearty congratulations on your having broken Sidney [sic] Barnes' record for the number of wickets taken in Tests. It is a magnificent achievement and should stand for many a long year, especially as you ought to add a hell of a lot more to your total before finally retiring from International cricket. Despite the fact that you were largely instrumental in giving us a hammering in the Cape Town Test we in Durban were all delighted at your success and at the same time, bitterly disappointed of the showing of our own fellows...The whole match at Cape Town appears to have been a series of tragedies... This letter was written to congratulate Grimmett after he had taken 10 wickets in the Test match against South Africa at Newlands, 1st-4th January 1936, breaking S.F.Barnes' world record of 189 Test wickets. Grimmett (1891-1980) played for Australia between 1925 and 1936. He was the first bowler to take 200 wickets in Test cricket.
